Historical background to the document "Speech of Heydar Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan at the ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (May 27, 1998)"
The Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan was declared by the National Council of Azerbaijan in Tbilisi on May 27, 1918. The Day of Declaration of Independence - May 28, 1918 is currently celebrated as the Day of Republic.
The 80th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan took place on May 28, 1998. This event, remarkable and historic for the Azerbaijan, was widely celebrated after the decree “On the Celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan” was signed by Heydar Aliyev on January 30, 1998.
