Address of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Jewish community of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Baku, May 3, 1997

Dear compatriots!

Every year the mankind commeromates the innocent victims of the Holocaust, a genocide committed during the World War Two when six million people of the Jewish origin were cruelly massacred by the German fascism.

Such national tragedies took place also in the history of the Azerbaijani people. Due to the scale of its brutality, the Khojaly massacre, which entered our history as a bloody page, stands among the mass destructions committed by the fascists in Babi-Yar of Kiev and in ghettos of Warsaw and Krakow.

On behalf of the Azerbaijani people, I share your sorrow on the occassion of the day of the national mourning of the Jews. May all innocent victims of the genocide rest in peace.
