Historical background to the document "Speech of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev at the ceremony of awarding the title of "Man of the Year in the World" for 1997 by "Nargis TV" channel of Turkey (Istanbul, the hall of the International Conference and Exhibition after Lutfi Kirdar, February 13, 1998)"
On February 13-14, 1998, Heydar Aliyev paid a brief working visit to Turkey at the invitation of the Turkish President Suleyman Demirel and prime minister Mesut Yilmaz.
They exchanges views on the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations, regional and international situation during the meeting. Heydar Aliyev was awarded with the Prize of Human Rights of the Turkish Industry and Business Foundation. Moreover, he was also named the “Man of the Year” for 1997 among the political figures of the world according to a survey conducted by Nargiz TV , one of the most influential television channels of Turkey.
