From the Tete-a-Tete Talk of the Azerbaijani President with the Armenian President Robert Kocharian - Moscow, Kremlin, January 24, 2000

(Acting President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin takes part in the second part of the talks) 

 

Heydar Aliyev: “Solution of the Armenian- Azerbaijani conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh is the most urgent and important issue for the peoples of the both countries. But peaceful solution of the conflict must be the main condition.”

 

Robert Kocharian: “We are also fort the peaceful solution of the conflict. But the desires of the both parties must be taken into consideration in it.”

 

Heydar Aliyev: “Of course, we want the return of one million of out internally displaced compatriots home. But the regime of cease-fire must be maintained till the solution of the conflict.”

 

Robert Kocharian: “We understand the necessity of maintaining the regime of cease-fire and we shall observe it.”

 

Heydar Aliyev: “OSCE and the co-chairs of the Minsk Group are working for the peaceful solution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. They must continue their efforts further. Undoubtedly, the both parties must occupy a constructive position for the peaceful solution of the conflict, for the sake of the national interests of the both parties and a mutual compromise is necessary.”

 

Vladimir Putin: “The tete-a-tete meetings of the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents are of great importance. I express my gratitude to them for holding this meeting in Moscow.  Russia, like the United States of America and France as co-chairs of the Minsk Group, will increase its efforts for the immediate solution of the conflict.”
