Historical background to the document "Speech of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev at the signature ceremony of three contracts on joint developments «Absheron», «Nakhchivan» and «Oguz» structures (Washington, the White House, August 1, 1997)"

On August 1, 1997, a ceremony of signature of documents took place in the Roosevelt Room of the White House with the participation of the US vice president Albert-Gore and Heydar Aliyev within the framework of his official visit to the United States.

Exploration, development and production sharing agreements were signed by vice-president of SOCAR Ilham Aliyev and the first vice-president of Chevron Richard Matske on the prospective Absheron deposit, by Ilham Aliyev and Exxon President Terry Koonce on prospective Nakhchivan deposit, by SOCAR president Natig Aliyev and Mobile President Bill Scoggins on prospective Oghuz deposit.

Natig Aliyev and Amoco President George Pitman signed an agreement on cooperation which gives Amoco exclusive rights for conducting negotiations on the prospective Inam structure.
