From the conversation of the President of the Reublic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev with Sadako Ogata, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees - Davos, January 29, 2000

Heydar Aliyev: Distinguished Mrs. Ogata! Nice to meet you. I am very satisfied to meet the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Sadako Ogata: I am very glad to meet you, Mr. President. I am informed about your meetings in Davos where with a great interest I listened to your speech at the session on the "Perspectives of the Caucasus and the Central Asia: The Silk Road or a great game" in the World Economic Forum. All this is of special significance for spreading the realities of Azerbaijan throughout the world.

Heydar Aliyev: As you know, bilateral negotiations, as well as negotiations within the framework of the Misk Group of OSCE are underway for the peaceful solution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh.

The problems of the Azerbaijani refugees, who were forced to leave their homes because of the aggression of the Armenian armed forces are too many. It is very important to pay more attention and care for those people who tolerate all the sufferings and who hope to return home.

The relations between UNHCR and Azerbaijan must be strengthened in order to restore the justice and help our refugees return home.
