Speech by Heydar Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the meeting with William ‎White, the President of “Frontera Resources Company”‎ - Houston, Winham Warwick Hotel, August 2, 1997‎

Mister White!‎

Dear Gentlemen!‎

I cordially greet you and other representatives of the company and guests participating at this ‎meeting and I express my satisfaction with the status of relationships between Azerbaijan and US ‎companies.‎

I consider my first official visit to the United States upon the invitation of President Bill Clinton as ‎an historical fact and I declare that meetings, negotiations that I hold at White House and ‎documents that I signed with President Bill Clinton pave a new era of US-Azerbaijan cooperation. I ‎am very pleased and satisfied with these meetings.‎

Stressing the fact that Baku and Houston are twin-cities, I feel a great pleasure of my being in State ‎of Texas. I am very pleased with the fact that “Baker Hughes” Company displayed interest in ‎Azerbaijan and Mr.Luckins, the president of this company participates at this meeting, I would like ‎to stress that we attach a special importance to expand the scope of our relationship.‎

Mr. White, I would like to thank you for your kind words you said about the firm stability ‎established in Azerbaijan in the result of measures undertaken in our republic and your support to ‎the solution of problems we are facing with, especially your contribution to the peaceful settlement ‎of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and abrogation of the amendment to the 907th Section of the ‎‎“Freedom Support Act”.‎
