From the conversation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev at the official reception given in honor of the President of Azerbaijan on behalf of the ambassador Mr. Sato, the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in Osaka, February 28, 1998

Mr. ambassador,

Dear friends,

I once again express my gratitude for the hospitality and the attention given to me during my visit to Japan, the \"Land of the Rising Sun.\" Your beautiful country and negotiations I spent there made a big impression on me. My first official visit to Japan opens a new stage in the continuous development of the Azerbaijani-Japanese cooperation. In these days we had a meeting with His Majesty the Emperor, Prime Minister, leaders of the House and the Counselors of the Parliament. I had many other meetings, negotiations and friendly conversations. All discussions and negotiations were held in the atmosphere of friendship, mutual understanding and sincerity. I believe that we have done a great and efficient work for the development of the Azerbaijani-Japanese relations. Our acquaintance with the ancient Japanese town of Kyoto, its beauty captivated us. The Kyoto Imperial Palace and Golden Temple made a strong impression on us. They are wonderful historical and architectural monuments. These monuments clearly show how rich history and culture of Japan. I am very pleased that I was able to meet you today. Thank you very much for your hospitality.
