From the joint Briefing of the French President Jac Chirac Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev and Armenian president Robert Kocharyan - March 5, 2001

Question: My question is to Mr. Aliyev and Mr. Chirac. Mr. Aliyev, as we know you support the rights of self determination of the Chechen and Kosovo nations.

What's your opinion about the right of self determination of the Armenian population of the Nagorno Karabagh, is not there a double standard approach to this issue?

Heydar Aliyev: Who said to you that I support them, where did you get the information? I have said it many times, and not let anyone have a wrong opinion, and repeat it to you, too.

I always support the principals of international law, I am against the violation of the boundaries, territorial integrity and separatism. Therefore, I can't support the violation of the territorial integrity of Russia by the Chechens. You have no information about my views on this problem, therefore ask such questions.
