National Flag

The national flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan consists of three equal wide horizontal stripes, from top: blue, red, and green. A white crescent and an octagonal star in the centre of the red band. The blue band is the sign of Turkicness, the green is signed for Islam and red is the sign for modernization and democracy. The crescent and star describing the sun and the moon, symbolize eternity and secularity. It became the official flag of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918. It was readopted as a national flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1991
