Amnesty İnternational


International non-governmental organization which defines its mission as "to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated." Founded in the UK in 1961 by an English lawyer Peter Benenson. Led by the Executive Committee which consists of nine members. Amnesty International has more than 1,5 million members in over 150 countries worldwide. More than 7800 local groups well as a lot of students and working groups have been registered at the International Secretariat of the organization in London. The organization was awarded the 1977 Nobel Peace Prize for its "campaign against torture" and the UN Human Rights Prize in 1978.
