From the talk of President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev with the Executive Secretary of the CIS, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, Yuri Yarov - Presidential Palace, 20 November, 2000

Heydar Aliyev: You have inserted new elements into the activity of the CIS. It is a rare case when on the eve of CIS sittings, the executive secretary would travel to countries and share opinions. And I think You have turned it into a system. It is very good.

Yuri Yarov: Heydar Aliyevich, You have appointed the executive secretary, and therefore, I represent the executive committee and have to execute your will.

Heydar Aliyev: The CIS has already longstanding history and therefore I can speak about new advance. I am pleased that You have arrived in Azerbaijan and we have an opportunity to share opinions.

Yuri Yarov: I appreciate You once again for the opportunity, in view of all Your work pressure, to communicate and report about the course of preparation. I am grateful to You for I have been given the chance to spend yesterday, Sunday, in Baku. We could walk around the evening Baku - it was unbelievable, because it is really a miracle. We walked in the Old City, walked in the pedestrian zone with so many people, so many beautiful constructions. We looked at the new buildings, and, in general, it is pleasant to see that the city has grown and become more beautiful in half a year after my visit. And thank You that I could visit and see all this, how the city is prospering. Thank You for this opportunity that I could be here yesterday, in your city.

Heydar Aliyev: I am very pleased to hear it. You show the best example in this respect too, because it happens sometimes that someone arrives in the morning and leaves in the evening. And they see nothing but meetings. And that yesterday You had the opportunity to see some things in the city and have such pleasant impressions, also distinguishes You from others, and I am very pleased with that.

Yuri Yarov: Thank You. But nevertheless, I want to report to my President that yesterday, on Sunday, we also had a meeting. I reported about all the materials to Abbas Abbasov. Today, I have had the opportunity to report to the minister of foreign affairs, the chairman of the government, and let me proceed to the report.

Heydar Aliyev: Yes, I was told about that, the prime minister reported about the meeting. And now we will also share opinions on this question.
